Weekly Roundup 02.23.2025

Writer: Cj MayesCj Mayes

Welcome back to another SportsVizSunday round up.

Seemingly all eyes on the six nations, as we close out a 4th week of results.

It also looks like the under 20's England squad are putting in quite the shift with their 57-13 win over Scotland. It looks like the future of rugby is bright for England.

Rugby is where we will start today and interestingly enough with those two teams in mind,

A double treat from Chris this week as he as a viz and blog to follow.

Chris viz looks at the Calcutta Cup, and the England - Scotland Rivalry. Chris adds some useful annotations to highlight the sea of wins for England in the 90's through to the 2010's before a more recent turn of event where Scotland have had a few wins on the bounce post 2017.

Chris blogs more widely about passion projects and the three recent visuals he's created on Rugby. We are here for it!

Turning to basketball Shangruff looks at the points scored in a season for Luka Doncic. The drill down functionality of each game is where the real excitement to the viz comes into play, being able to see the game stats, shot map and shot types in further details.

Anthony looks at the path to success for becoming a head coach. Much like any sport, individuals will either be ex players, or been in the game in some capacity from a watcher, analyser or assistant in some way to get a deeper level of understanding before becoming a head coach. It seems that one thing that is common is the "co ordinator" role before heading into the head coach role.

I am loving the longevity to this visual from Anastasiya, as she refreshes it with the end to the 2024 season. We also wait in excitement! Cant wait for another year of vizzing from Anastasiya!

Umar is back in action after a lengthy hiatus to take a look at the rivalry that exists within Manchester. Umar highlights that the winning points usually sits between the 80-90 range for a season win, and the clear dominance of Man City in the 17-18 season to accumulate 100 points for their third title.

A few more visuals have trickled through from a conference Mo, Simon and I presented at. We love when we get to work and chat with sports fans so it's nice that the resources are still getting used months on from the initial workshop.

Iryna looks at focusing on gender split for different country wins in Wimbledon. Followed by similar formatted F1 & NCAA coaches visuals. A great way to get involved, really focusing in on the chart types required for the challenge.

That's it for this week.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend whatever you get up to,
